Hello everyone! I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Kőröshegyi Levendulás, a breathtaking lavender farm located on the southern shore of Lake Balaton in Kőröshegy, Hungary. As I stepped onto the grounds yesterday, June 21st, 2025, the air was immediately filled with the soothing scent of lavender, and my eyes were met with an endless sea of purple. What is Kőröshegyi Levendulás?
Kőröshegyi Levendulás, also known as Kőröshegyi Tulipán és Levendula Park, is one of Hungary’s largest and most scenic lavender farms. Established in 2012, it has grown into a significant attraction that draws visitors from all over, eager to immerse themselves in the beauty of blooming lavender. While famously known for its lavender, the farm also celebrates spring with vibrant tulip blooms, making it a year-round destination for nature lovers. It’s a fantastic spot for families, offering a child-friendly environment and even welcoming furry friends on a leash.
My Experience: Lavender Picking and More
The highlight of my visit was definitely the lavender picking! Upon arrival, I received a pair of scissors and a basket/bag, ready to collect my own fragrant treasures. Wandering through the vast fields, I was amazed by the different shades of purple from various lavender varieties. It’s an incredibly therapeutic activity, and I loved being able to choose my own blossoms to take home. The price depends on the size of your bag, which is a great system.
Beyond the picking, the farm offers numerous picturesque spots perfect for photography. The panoramic view of Lake Balaton from the lavender fields is simply stunning – a truly Instagrammable moment! I spent a good amount of time capturing the beauty around me. There are also shaded areas and picnic spots, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy the serene atmosphere. It’s clear they’ve designed the park for relaxation and enjoyment for all ages.
The Enchanting Farm Shop
After my delightful picking session, I headed to the farm shop, which is a treasure trove of lavender-infused products. From delicious lavender jam and syrup to soothing lavender soaps, essential oils, and even lavender honey – they have it all! I couldn’t resist picking up some lavender soap and a bottle of essential oil as souvenirs. Every time I use them, I’m transported back to the peaceful fields of Kőröshegy. Some picking tickets even come with a coupon for the gift shop, which is a nice bonus.
Best Time to Visit Kőröshegyi Levendulás
For those planning a trip, the prime time to visit Kőröshegyi Levendulás for its lavender is mid-June to mid-August. The lavender usually reaches its peak bloom around late June to early July. My visit yesterday, June 21st, was absolutely perfect, with the fields in magnificent full bloom.
While the flowering period for a single plant is about 3-4 weeks, the farm cultivates different varieties that ensure beautiful blooms throughout the summer. If you’re traveling from abroad, especially from countries like Korea, June is an ideal month to visit Hungary. The weather is generally pleasant, not too hot, making it comfortable for outdoor activities. Aiming for late June or early July will ensure you catch the lavender at its most vibrant.
